Macmillan Cancer Support Funds Eat Well to Strengthen Wellbeing Support for Young Adults with Cancer

Macmillan funding will help us expand nutrition and wellbeing support for young adults with cancer.

The Ella Dawson Foundation is delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding from Macmillan Cancer Support to strengthen our wellbeing support for young adults aged 18-30 living with and beyond cancer across the UK.

The funding will support the Eat Well programme over a 12-month period designed to improve access to specialist support for young people navigating the physical and emotional challenges of cancer treatment and recovery.

Cancer treatments can affect appetite, weight changes, taste, energy levels, relationships with food and overall wellbeing. For many young adults, these changes can make eating well feel difficult at a time when good nutrition and practical, personalised support can play an important role in recovery and day-to-day quality of life.

The grant will enable the Ella Dawson Foundation to expand their Eat Well programme which provides a blend of specialist nutrition support, expert guidance, group sessions, accessible resources and opportunities for young adults to build knowledge, practical skills and confidence in managing their wellbeing.

The programme has been shaped by insights from young adults with lived experience of cancer, helping ensure the support is practical, accessible and relevant to the needs of young people.

Jane Dawson, Founder and CEO of the Ella Dawson Foundation, said:

"We are incredibly grateful to Macmillan Cancer Support for recognising the importance of holistic support for young adults living with and beyond cancer. This funding will allow us to reach more young people across the UK with trusted, evidence-informed support that helps them build confidence, manage day-to-day challenges and feel more in control of their health and wellbeing."

The Ella Dawson Foundation has seen growing demand for its services in recent years. The Macmillan grant will help ensure more young adults can access support that empowers them to take control of their wellbeing and recovery journey.

Across the UK, many people affected by cancer experience unequal access to support, information and specialist services because of factors such as age, location, income or wider health inequalities. Macmillan and the Ella Dawson Foundation is committed to ensuring that everyone receives the best possible cancer care and support, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances.
